Overview

Coastal Management coordinates and manages all of St. Johns County’s engineered beach projects. This includes pre- and post-storm assessments of the shoreline to determine future project locations. Coastal Management works with the public, funding agencies, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful implementation of coastal projects that preserve and enhance the beaches of St. Johns County.

News

Mickler’s Landing Temporary Closure – Due to a dredge mechanical failure being used in the Ponte Vedra Beach Restoration Project, Mickler’s Landing parking and beach access will be closed an additional day on Friday, May 24. It will be open for the entirety of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The County’s contractor, Weeks Marine, is continuing to accelerate its work to complete this project far ahead of schedule. The project was originally anticipated to be completed in mid-August. It is now expected to be completed by the end of June thanks to the tireless work of Weeks Marine crews.

St. Augustine Beach Army Corps Project Delayed – The project has been delayed due to shorebird nesting activity in Anastasia State Park. The Pope Road parking and beach access will remain closed to the public. A revised project schedule is expected to be announced mid-May. For more information, please click here.

Ponte Vedra Beach Restoration Project – St. Johns County has procured 100% of the easements within the project area, and the project is underway as of March 29, 2024.

USACE Chief of Engineers Signs Ponte Vedra Beach CSRM Chief’s Report – Concluding a three-year study for the South Ponte Vedra area, the Chief of Engineers of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers signed the Chief’s Report detailing the recommended plan for the area. Read the full story here.

Beach Access Updates and Closures

Mickler’s Landing – As part of the Ponte Vedra Beach Restoration Project, Mickler’s Landing may have intermittent closures for public safety for the delivery of large equipment. Pope Road – As part of the St. Augustine Beach Shore Protection Project, the Pope Road parking and beach access will be closed starting February 22, 2024. Pope Road Parking Lot Closing Until Fall 2024 for Beach Renourishment Project Staging
