St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call (904) 209-0300 for more information or to obtain an application.

Tourist Development Council (3)
Purpose of Committee: Recommend funding of facilities, programs, or contracts which are primarily for the purpose of and related to the development, advancement, furtherance, improvement, or promotion of tourism.
Qualifications: Seeking applicants who are an owner or operator of motels, hotels, or other tourist accommodations subject to the bed tax and persons involved in tourist related businesses other than accommodations. Applicants must be registered voters in St. Johns County.
Term: Members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting schedule: This Council meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 1:30pm in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian Way. St Augustine FL 32084

Value Adjustment Board (1)
Purpose of Committee: To hear petitions relating to assessments filed, complaints relating to homestead exemptions, appeals from exemptions denied or disputes arising from exemptions granted, and appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications.
Qualifications: Must be a citizen owning homestead property within St. Johns County. The citizen member appointed may not be a member or employee of any taxing authority, and may not be a person who represents property owners in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes.
Meeting schedule: This Board meets on an as needed basis up to four or five times a year in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.

Adjustment and Appeals Board (4 - 2 Regular and 2 Alternates)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Adjustment and Appeals Board is to hear requests for code interpretation and cases for unsafe building abatement codes. The Adjustment and Appeals Board primary responsibility is to hear and decide appeals of orders, decision or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of the Building Code.
Qualifications: Seeking two applicants who reside within St. Johns County and have knowledge and experience in the technical codes that are regulated by the Florida Building Code. Also seeking two Alternate members, one representing the general public, and one representing the building industry. Term: Regular Members serve a term of four (4) years. (NOTE: One position will be fulfilling an expired term.)
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on call as needed in Conference Room 1A/1B of the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

South Anastasia Design Review Board (2 Members and 2 Alternates)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the South Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect and preserve the "Old Florida" style, rural beach community in the South Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.07.00 South Anastasia Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident who has shown an interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community.

  • Prefer at least one regular member who owns or operates an active business with a physical presence within the District and meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements. In the event there are no qualified applicants for this position, an applicant that meets the Membership Area overlay residency requirements may be appointed.
  • All other members shall meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements which are to reside on Anastasia Island south of Dondanville Road. Members are required to file a financial disclosure.

Term: All members shall serve a term of four (4) years.

Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board (6 - 4 Regular and 2 Alternate)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect natural resources, maintain and enhance the diverse and unique character of the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.08.00 Mid-Anastasia Overlay District of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.

Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid- Anastasia community.

  • Seeking (4) regular and (2) alternate applicants residing within the Overlay District, on Anastasia Island
    and north of Weff Road and Satsuma Avenue.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years. Members are required to file a financial disclosure.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:00pm in the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

Architectural Review Committee (3 Regular Members and 2 Alternate)
Purpose of Committee: To ensure enhanced property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra /Palm Valley Overlay Districts in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants competent in the fields of architecture, design, planning, landscape architecture or other relevant expertise who would also need to fill the below requirements.
  • Seeking applicants who reside in the Ponte Vedra Zoning District (1 Regular and 1 Alternative)

-OR-

  • Seeking applicants who reside in District 4, but outside of the Ponte Vedra Zoning District. (2 Regular and 1 Alternate)

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This committee meets every fourth Wednesday of each month from 5-8:30 p.m. in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.
