|Sea turtle nesting season - May 1 to October 31|
Toll Booths Open – Starting March 1, toll booths will be open at SJC beaches. From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on-beach driving passes will be for sale at area toll booths. Daily fees for the 2019 beach season are $10 or $5 for handicap and active military. Annual passes are $50 for residents, $100 for non-residents, and $40 for a handicap pass. Disabled military are eligible for a free annual pass by presenting military ID or a letter from Veterans Affairs verifying disabled status. Sea Turtle Nesting Season Rules – To comply with regulations that protect the turtles, beach driving and lighting rules are in effect May 1 to October 31. Vehicular traffic on the beach is only allowed from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and all beachfront properties are required to reduce the impact of interior and exterior lighting which may impact nesting sea turtles. Volunteers with the St. Johns County Sea Turtle and Beach Steward Program – St. Johns County is seeking volunteers to survey wrack lines to recover stranded washback sea turtles and conduct beach cleanups from August through November. Be a Sea Turtle Washback Program Volunteer!
Beach Wheelchairs – To help make our beaches more accessible, beach wheelchairs are available at no charge, on a first come first serve basis. Please note that three days advance notification is required to reserve a wheelchair. To make a reservation, please call contact Cathy Strickland (904) 209-0341.

With over 40 miles of scenic coastline, St. Johns County beaches offer some of the best recreational and wildlife viewing opportunities in the beautiful State of Florida. Just minutes from the historic district of downtown St. Augustine residents and visitors can park off-beach and walk, sunbathe, fish or enjoy wildlife viewing along endless miles of pristine coastline or park directly on the sand and enjoy a dip in the surf near one of the several staffed lifeguard towers.
Our beaches have several miles of coquina and white soft sand beaches set against a backdrop of natural dunes topped with sea oats. Our Beaches are a popular location to hold special events such as weddings, parties, marathons and other events of similar nature. St. Johns County offers many beach front parks and has easy access to most of its beaches.
St. Johns County is home to a variety of wildlife including several species of endangered or threatened sea turtles, the native Anastasia Island beach mice, gopher tortoises, and shorebirds. Each spring our beaches our buzzing with activity as sea turtles, beach mice, gopher tortoises, and shorebirds use our beaches and dunes for nesting and foraging that continues throughout the summer months. Sea turtle nesting season is from May 1 – October 31. Those who live and visit St. Johns County have a special opportunity and responsibility to protect these magnificent creatures and their vulnerable nesting and feeding habitat.
